About Us

Cura is a Latin word translated as “to care for”, and that’s what we aim to do, to care so mothers and their babies.

This company was started in response to my own experience giving birth. In 2019, I became pregnant with our first child. While I had always desired a homebirth, that feeling shifted into a need as the pandemic lockdowns reached their peak and my knowledge of the poor conditions of hospital maternity care increased. Birthing at home swiftly became the only viable option for our family. We planned on a waterbirth and I labored in the tub for the majority of that process. The water felt amazing and the distance from other people it gave me was very wanted. However, the hottest water ran out soon into my labor and I spent the next hours until my daughter was born having to be conscious of people pouring boiled water into the tub behind me and aware enough to let the cooling water out as needed. When we conceived baby number two, we discovered the regulator preventing the water from being as hot as I wanted and turned it off. Although this solved the temperature issue, I still needed to come out of my birth brain enough to let water out and put more in. By this time I had already become dedicated to finding a permanent solution to this issue but that drive was exponentially increased when the water heater broke entirely the week of baby number three’s due date and was only replaced four days before he came.

The result of this is the Cura birth tub heater. This little pump circulates water to maintain the temperature of your birth tub with no need to fiddle with drains or faucets. It’s small and lightweight, only weighing 6 pounds and easily slipping into a backpack ; so long as there’s an outlet you can bring it to wherever birth may be occurring! The Cura heater not only maintains the water temperature but it can also increase it. While you won’t be using this to run a hot tub, this little heater hero can raise the temperature x degrees over x minutes/hours. This means that you can bring the temperature up for a laboring woman who needs it just a bit hotter to help with that pain gate situation. In a pinch, it can also be set to run on a cold tub at the beginning of labor for a warm bath for delivery nearer the end. It’s also ideal for situations where the birth tub may not be conveniently located near a tap or faucet. Additionally, it can be used to pump water out of a tub when it’s no longer needed.

My goal in bringing this product to market to ensure that every woman who wants a water birth can have one and that she can do so with as little stress as possible. I want every woman to be able to slip into labor land and know that the water will be there ready for her when she needs it.

This is just the beginning! We have many more products on the horizon to help you have your most comfortable and stress-free birth experience.
